Temporary High-Pressure Engineer
Position Type: Temporary (March 25, 2025 – May 15, 2025) Wednesday & Thursday Only.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled High-Pressure Engineer for a temporary assignment from March 25, 2025, to May 15, 2025. Under direct supervision, performs the daily operation and maintenance of the buildings heating systems to include, but not limited to high and low-pressure steam and hot water boilers, gas fired roof top HV/AC systems (reciprocating, centrifugal, absorption, and rotary type air conditioning systems – air & water type cooling towers, chilled & condenser water systems) and all related equipment. This includes fuel oil, electrical, gas, air compressor, water treatment, heating controls (pneumatic & electric) and domestic water systems. Operation and maintenance of pumps, motors and controls for heating, air conditioning, fire prevention and all ventilation systems.
Reports to: School Custodian Engineer and Deputy Director of Facilities
Responsibilities
- Assist with maintaining all Building Logs (Safety, Fire, Boiler, Maintenance)
- Assist with testing and inspecting of all Fire Safety equipment to include fire alarm, sprinkler and standpipe systems and related equipment
- Knowledge of basic electric, plumbing, steam fitting, carpentry, glazing, locksmith and HV/AC controls
- Keeps all equipment, tools and work area safe and clean
- Knowledge Use of all hand and power tools
- Perform physical lifting and use of ladders
- Performs general repair and maintenance work as required
- Assists with general cleaning
- Assist with snow and ice removal
- General knowledge of facility cleaning
- Assist with mowing and trimming lawns and shrubbery, using mowers and hand and power trimmers, and clear debris from grounds
- Effectively completing all tasks as assigned by the supervising authority
- Efficiently managing time and meeting all specified deadlines
- Ensuring the availability of all materials, tools, spare parts and other equipment’s for performing maintenance work.
- Required to respond to all emergencies
- Knowledge of DOE, DOB, EPA, FDNY & NYSD codes and protocols
- Supervision of custodial staff to include cleaners, handypersons, and fireperson
- Work in a professional manner with all school building employees and regulatory agencies
- Strong communication and supervisory skills
Qualifications Requirements:
- Five years’ experience preferred - working with high and low pressure steam and hot water boilers and gas fired roof top HV/AC systems and related equipment. General knowledge of plumbing, steam fitting, carpentry, glazing, locksmith and HV/AC controls. Supervision of employees within the related field of custodial care and facility maintenance. Working knowledge of facility cleaning and maintenance.
- Preferred satisfactory completion from accredited trade school in the related field of boiler operation, maintenance, plumbing, steam fitting, carpentry, glazing, locksmith and HV/AC controls is a plus.
License Requirements:
Preferred valid Refrigeration Engineers License is required by the New York City Fire Department to operate such equipment required by code. Pool Certification.
Required Stationary Engineers License issued by NYC Department of Buildings. CFC Universal.
Additional license requirements: Certificate of Fitness Issued by New York City Fire Department (Building Specific – Must Acquire within 6 months of Employment).
